DECLUTTER YOUR HOME

  • 09/Jul/2021

Nowadays, people are so obsessed to buying new products that they are always ready to go shopping. This eventually results in the accumulation of stuff more than required. Nobody is bothered to think what they will do with the older products already at home, they are just interested to look for new things for their own pleasure. Has anyone ever thought that this will ultimately lead to the generation of clutter at home? The answer is probably "no" when we are talking about apparel, books, toys, utensils, crockery, and some other daily used products. What is clutter? A clutter is usually the set of things that are where they are not wanted or needed and make a place untidy. For instance, when we do cleaning work at home or at our workplaces, we see many things which we haven't used recently or even more than a year. It happens when we buy similar products under the obsession of buying and shopping. If we clean our bookshelves, we will be surprised to see that there are many books which haven't been for years. Identify what is clutter for you? There are many things around us which we don't use but can't be categorized as "clutter". Before discarding them, you need to identify what is clutter for you. Some of the methods are listed as: 1. The things which you have kept securely because of sentiments or emotions attached to them. You are not ready to discard them on the pretext that either someone has gifted you or there are some fond memories connected with them. You must know that memories are cherished, not stored. 2. The things which you have not used even once for almost a year, then believe me you are certainly not going to use it in future. This will prove to be clutter for you. 3. The documents which have got expired and renewed can be another form of clutter you are storing at your home and workplace. 4. A person who is so obsessed about brands should discard/donate the apparels and accessories which require mending. Such a person will hesitate to use such mended items, no matter how costly it is. Factors leading to clutter: 1. One of the primary causes of generating clutter is procrastination. People tend to delay or postpone deciding what to do with the things when they have in excess. I know it is hard on us to get rid of the things which we bought with pleasure or have some memories connected. 2. Usually, it is found and observed that at the time of cleaning, all the members of the family are not leading. In such situations, the one who is busy cleaning never has any idea about others' opinion on using the things or not. This can lead to failing to identify what is clutter for them. 3. Sometimes, people are so fond of the things that they fail to realise the real worth of the things which they have retained with them for years. Tips to declutter your home: Dhawal Kumar Gawri Asst.
